SkillsUSA Council Ambassador Training and Professional Development Conference, being held November 15th-17th welcomes approximately 170 students, 30 teachers, and 30 local businesses to participate in a two-day personal leadership building conference.  The conference includes additional training activities outside of the classroom using the SkillsUSA Career Essentials Program.  Career Essentials is a leadership curriculum-based program that teaches career and technical students the job readiness skills and other critical life skills, e.g. communication, leadership and citizenship, necessary to be successful in life.  While Career Essentials is used in the classroom, the Conference provides opportunities to teach additional lessons not suited to the classroom.

Lessons are given on subjects such as: demonstrating social etiquette, interviewing preparation, social media do’s and don’ts, developing high self-esteem, conflict management, and communicating effectively with others.  Students speak with industry leaders about their careers, career paths and, in general terms, what it is like being “on-the-job.”  Students also meet with their school administrators to gain a better understanding of how their school operates, and all attendees learn about the many opportunities available through SkillsUSA.
